The O Shot
WHAT IS THE O-SHOT®?
The solution that gives you a healthier and more satisfying sex life. The O-Shot ® is an exciting new non-invasive treatment that helps your natural growth processes regenerate your vaginal system to increase your overall sexual health. The use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has grown tremendously in sexual medicine due to its proven regenerative potential.
WHY CHOOSE THE O-SHOT® TREATMENT?
Research has shown that sexual dysfunction and urinary incontinence affect more than 60% of women and 58% of postmenopausal women experience vaginal dryness.
Many women need to realize that they are not alone in this. As women go through normal aging, hormonal changes, and life events such as childbirth, their bodies change. Taking a longer time to achieve an orgasm, or experiencing less intense orgasms, are more common than previously realized. Women most likely also experience urinary leakage with common activities such as sneezing and laughing, or have some vaginal dryness. There are now effective options available for these problems.
In female rejuvenation, Dr. Pate uses the regenerative capabilities of PRP selectively to help the treatment of urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness (atrophic vaginitis) and certain gynecologic disorders such as lichen sclerosis.
Many post-menopausal women or patients with gynecological cancers with severe vaginal dryness are unable to have sexual intercourse due to the lack of lubrication or secondary to pain at the entrance of their vagina (introitus). These women are able to benefit from the healing capabilities of PRP and are able to engage in non-painful sexual relations again.
The use of laser technology such as Mona Lisa® and PRP in combination has been very promising and amplifies the results of each individual treatment alone in the approach to these common concerns. Many of our patients have had profound life-changing results from this combination treatment.
WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THE O-SHOT® AT BIOSYMMETRY?
The changes that come with aging and menopause are a part of life, but that doesn’t mean they also have to spell the end of your sex life. Almost two thirds of women experience vaginal dryness after menopause and about the same number suffers from urinary incontinence. Enjoying sex is a part of being human, and that shouldn’t go away with the passing years because your vaginal lubrication and sensitivity has declined.
If you’re experiencing increased vaginal dryness, have found your ability to achieve orgasm has decreased, are dealing with bladder leakage when you sneeze or cough, or are experiencing pain at the entrance of your vagina, the O-Shot® from Dr. Pate could be a great option.
HOW IS THE O-SHOT® PROCEDURE DONE?
The procedure is done as follows:
- First blood is drawn from a vein to be
- processed to obtain the platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
- A small amount of topical numbing ointment is placed on the treatment area.
- A clitoral block (local anesthetic block) is performed, with the use of ice and numbing cream to help numb the area.
- The PRP is mixed with several ingredients to activate the platelets and to reduce the discomfort during the injection.
- PRP is injected to specific areas to help treat your area of concern.
There is mild swelling and discomfort, but most patients do not need to take anything more than Tylenol®. The entire procedure takes less than 10 minutes after the PRP is processed, and there are no activity restrictions afterwards.
Dr. Pate is certified in the procedure of the O-Shot®. In addition, the PRP processing method we utilize helps us achieve the highest growth factor concentration for optimal results.
WHAT KIND OF RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM THE O-SHOT®?
Our Biosymmetry patients have reported increased sensitivity throughout the vaginal area, increased lubrication, and increased comfort during sexual activity. They also report increased interest in sex, possibly as a result of the other improvements. This is not a procedure for more serious cases of urinary incontinence, but for mild cases, the O-Shot® has proven effective. Of course, results can vary by the patient. These results last for between six months and two years. We’ve found that patients can extend their results for a longer duration with a follow-up O-Shot® at six months to one year after their initial procedure.
For best results, other complementary strategies such as health optimization, nutrient and hormonal support are vital for the success of all O-shot® treatments.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN THE O-SHOT® ADDRESS?
- Vaginal dryness
- Urinary incontinence
- Decreased clitoral sensation
- Decreased ability to achieve orgasm
- Pain during intercourse at the vaginal entrance
Is the O-Shot®procedure safe?
PRP is safe because:
- It is obtained from the patient’s own blood.
- It’s natural, with no foreign substance.
- There have been no reported serious side effects in more than 8,000 papers published.
However, not everyone is a good candidate for this procedure. Dr. Pate will consult with you to determine if you are a candidate.
How much pain will I experience?
Of the many patients that Dr. Pate has treated, the pain has been reported as mild (2-3 out of a scale of 10). He takes several steps to help reduce the discomfort you might experience. This may include the use of topical anesthetic cream, local anesthetic block, ice or other cooling devices for anesthesia. The anticipation and thought of the procedure usually causes more anxiety and stress for the patient than the actual procedure itself.
When can I return to sexual activity after the O-Shot®?
There isn’t any prescribed downtime after the O-Shot®, but there can be some soreness at the site of injection for a day or so. Patients can return to work or other activities immediately.
*Individual results may vary.
